The deposition of magnesium fluoride (MGF2) thin films by chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique: their characterization and applications
Abstract
The Chemical Bath Deposition (CBD) technique was successfully employed in the growth of magnesium fluoride (MgF2) thin films. The films were characterized and optimized. The characterization included: the optical and solid state properties such as the transmittance (T)/reflectance (R) absorbance (A) spectra which were determined by means of PYE UNICAM SP8-400 and SP3-300 spectrophotometers and deductions therefrom including film thickness. The films revealed high transmittance (-85-98%) in the solar region making them useful for thermal control and anti-reflection coating applications. Thicknesses ranging from -0.16-0.19 μm were obtained.
