Extradural Myxopapillary Ependymoma arising in the lower lumbar region
Abstract
Spinal extradural ependymoma is a rare tumor; we report an unusual case of extradural lumbar ependymoma and review the relevant literature. A 58 years old male presented with the history of low back pain of 4 months duration radiating to both the lower limbs (left more than the right), difficulty in gripping footwear and limping while walking of one moth duration. Investigations were suggestive of extradural spinal tumor. Near total excision of the lesion was performed and the histology of the lesion showed myxopapillary ependymoma. The prognosis for extradural ependymomas does not appear to be as favorable because of high potential of distant metastases.
