Malignant transformation of chronic limb wounds. three cases reported.
Abstract
We report three cases of malignant transformation of chronic wound and from thermal burn scar. The first is characterized by total destruction of the tibial diaphysis; the second appeared 22 years after skin healing and the third also occurred after skin healing. The three cases were differentiated spinocellular epithelioma and they were all treated by amputation of the limb concerned. The authors stress the necessity of repeated biopsies of any chronic wound if the patient has to have a conservative surgery.
Key words: chronic wound, Marjolin ulcer, spinocellular epithelioma.
