Abstract

 Este trabalho faz uma breve apresentação do ritual de gammu, uma prática cultural da religião muçulmana na Guiné-Bissau. O nosso objetivo é procurar entender como ocorre a prática do gammu e qual a sua importância para os fiéis muçulmanos, desta forma, este trabalho contribuirá na propagação desta prática como um fator de enriquecimento e de expansão da cultura islâmica. Nesse sentido, foram entrevistados alguns conhecedores da prática do gammu conhecidos como imames e sábios para melhor compreensão de seu funcionamento. Constatou-se, assim, que o gammu é um ritual muçulmano que tem a finalidade de juntar os fiéis para a leitura do alcorão e aprender o ensinamento do Allah (Deus), neste encontro, as pessoas de diferente comunidade religiosa levam as suas preocupações para apresentar ao Allah. O gammu é organizado pelos responsáveis da mesquita, os imames, chefes da comunidade e outros conhecedores do livro sagrado (o alcorão) e, para sua realização, geralmente escolhe-se um lugar espaçoso para melhor se reunir. O gammu é considerado também uma festa na qual compra-se animais para servirem de alimentação durante a sua realização. Já pela noite, os fiéis proclamam e cantam em coro, em memória ao Allah e seus profetas. E, neste ambiente, os comerciantes de diferentes lugares aproveitam levar os seus produtos para vender. Assim, chega-se à conclusão de que, o gammu é um rito muito importante para os fiéis muçulmanos, pois é um espaço de aprender a ler e interpretar o livro sagrado (o alcorão) enquanto algo fundamental pela fortificação da fé para os muçulmanos.

English Abstract: This work makes a brief presentation of the gammu ritual, a cultural practice of the Muslim religion in Guinea-Bissau. Our goal is to try to understand how the practice of gammu occurs and what its importance is for Muslim believers and, this way, the work will contribute to the spread of this practice as a factor of enrichment and expansion of Islamic culture. In this sense, some experts in the practice of gammu, known as imams and wise men were interviewed for a better understanding of its operation. It was found, therefore, that the gammu is a Muslim ritual that aims to bring the believers together to read the Koran and learn the teaching of Allah (God), in this meeting, people from different religious communities take their concerns to present to Allah. The gammu is organized by the heads of the mosque, the imams, community leaders and other elders of the holy book (the Koran) and, for its realization, a spacious place is usually chosen to better meet. The gammu is also considered a party in which animals are bought to serve as food during its realization. At night, the believers proclaim and sing in chorus, in memory of Allah and his prophets. And in this environment, traders from different places enjoy taking their products to sell. Thus, it comes to the conclusion that, the gammu is a very important rite for the Muslim believers, as it is a space to learn to read and interpret the holy book (the Koran) as something fundamental for the strengthening of the faith for Muslims.
