Reverberações: narração oral, patrimônio e tradição oral em Cabo Verde

Abstract

A centralidade das tradições orais para a (re)constituição histórica e patrimonial das culturas, ainda que inegável, é matéria cujos desdobramentos contemporâneos transitam entre os universos acadêmico, artístico, cultural e político. Embora a designação das “Tradições e expressões orais” enquanto Patrimônio Cultural Imaterial sob a ótica da UNESCO (2003) tenha fomentado uma série de iniciativas políticas cujos objetivos centralizam-se na salvaguarda e recuperação das cadeias de transmissão de tais conhecimentos, diferentes práticas artísticas e performáticas também têm desempenhado um importante papel na conscientização de populações e na recolha cientificamente orientada de repertórios. Este artigo dedica-se à reflexão acerca do papel de práticas artísticas, em especial a narração oral e o teatro, na salvaguarda e recuperação de tradições orais, com especial atenção para as narrativas tradicionais de suporte memorial. Os dados apresentados enquadram-se em investigação etnográfica realizada em Cabo Verde, e foram recolhidos por meio de metodologias diversas como entrevistas, observação participante e análise bibliográfica. Alicerçado pelos Estudos do Patrimônio e pela Antropologia, o raciocínio apresentado tratará da problematização da circulação de repertórios tradicionais em contextos artísticos, pedagógicos e performáticos com o objetivo de potencializar a discussão acerca da salvaguarda do patrimônio em questão no contexto comunicacional contemporâneo, para além de fronteiras e políticas institucionais.

The central role of oral traditions in the historical (re)constitution of cultures and heritage, although undeniable, is a subject of diverse contemporary developments that transit between the academic, artistic, cultural and political spheres. Although recently the institutional categorization of the “Oral expressions and traditions” as Intangible Cultural Heritage from a international perspective headed by UNESCO (2003) has fostered a series of political initiatives whose objectives are centered on the safeguarding of transmission chains, different artistic and performance practices have also played an important role in raising awareness and promoting the scientifically oriented recollection of repertoires. This article analyzes the role of such artistic practices, particularly storytelling and theater, in the safeguarding of oral traditions, most specifically traditional narratives. The observed data integrates a larger ethnographic investigation carried out in Cape Verde through different methodologies such as interviews, participant observation and bibliographical analysis. Framed by Critical Heritage Studies and anthropologically oriented, the article problematizes the circulation of traditional repertoires in artistic,pedagogical and performative contexts whilst objectifying contemporary heritage safeguarding practices beyond the institutional and political spheres.
