Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the 2010 cropping season at the Teaching and Research Farm of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, to assess some selected sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) varieties in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) replicated four times. Treatments include Ex-Sudan, E-8, SN-603, Nicaragua Blanco, ICEASE 0001, ICEASE 0013, ICEASE 0018 and ICEASE0020. The data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and means were separated using Fisher Least Significant Difference test (p = 0.05). The result shows that the highest seed yield (0.863t/ha) was obtained at Ex-Sudan followed by the SN-603 (0.612t/ha) while the least was obtained from Nicaragua Blanco (0.275t/ha).
