Gastric Schistosomiasis Mimicking Gastric Cancer - A Case Report
Abstract
Schistosoma species especially S. mansoni and S. Japonicum cause significant disease in the gastrointestinal tract and liver. These parasites cause hepatosplenic and hepatointestinal schistosomiasis associated with significant morbidity and mortality especially in children and young people. We report a case of middle aged northern Nigerian farmer who had gastric schistosomiasis that mimicked an ulcerated gastric tumor at endoscopy with good response to chemotherapy with praziquantel.
