Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma in 3rd Trimester of Pregnancy - A Case Report and Review of Literature
Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma is the commonest malignancy complicating chronic liver disease in the developing world. It could present with progressive right upper abdominal swelling and features of hepatic dysfunction. Pregnancy is associated with progressive abdominal distension and exerts increased physiological demand on the organ systems especially the liver. Hepatocellular carcinoma co-existing with 3rd trimester gestation (36 weeks) leading to sudden intra-uterine death and rapid deterioration of liver function and hepatic encephalopathy to the best of our knowledge has not been reported and is here presented.
