Attribution of causes of breast cancer among working class women in Kwara state, Nigeria
Abstract
This study investigated attribution of causes of breast cancer among working
class women in Kwara State. A descriptive research design was adopted for the
study and a total of 300 women were selected through a multi-stage sampling
technique. The participants responded to the attribution of causes of Breast
Cancer Inventory, (ACBCI). The questionnaire contained items on causes of
breast cancer. Most of the respondents displayed poor awareness of causes of
breast cancer. A group mean comparison procedure revealed that there was no significant difference in the attribution of causes of breast cancer among
working class women in Kwara state based on the length of years in service,
age, educational qualification, religion and length of years in marriage. In line
with the findings of the study, professional counsellors to enlighten the general public especially the female youths on causes and prevention of breast cancer.
