A Study of Attachment Behaviour as a Basis for Adolescent Homelessness in Benin City

TI Izevbigie

Abstract

A single most pervasive factor that has accounted for adolescent\'s homelessness is the stressful life experiences which hinge on a previous familial care given by the parents. The purpose of the present study was to find out if the pushway or forceaway adolescents were exercising or exhibiting a deviation in attachment behaviour or failure of its development. A sample of eighty (80) adolescents was drawn from those whose ages fell between 12-18 years. The main tool for data collection was the structured interview
made up of three parts: the homeless adolescents life events survey, the adolescents\' family background inventory and the living conditions/survival strategies of homeless adolescents.
