Abstract

The study investigated the contributions of age at marriage and religion couples to marital satisfaction among Igbo people in Imo State. Five hundred and eight subjects were selected from five local government areas in Imo State using a multi-stage random sampling technique. A questionnaire titled \"Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire\" constructed and validated by the researcher was used to collect data for the study. Results of the study showed that age at marriage and couple\'s religion were significantly related to marital satisfaction. Although age at marriage and religion of couples were significant predictor of marital satisfaction, religion of spouses was a better predictor of marital satisfaction than age at marriage. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended among others, that intending couples should be provided with sufficient information about marriage and factors that could contribute to marital satisfaction or dissatisfaction during pre-marital counselling.
