Analysis of the Concerns of Counsellor Trainees: Implications for Education.

N Osarenren

Abstract

This study investigated some of the common concerns expressed by counsellor trainees in the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos during the 1994/95 session. A total of forty four students consisting of twenty eight in the M.Ed. Class and sixteen in the final year of their undergraduate programme were used. An adapted form of \"Concerns ol Beginning Counsellor Scale\" was used for data collection. The researcher used the simple descriptive percentage for data analysis. Six out of the twenty five items in the instrument were rated as being of high concern to the trainees. Three of the items were exclusively worrisome to the final year students whereas the other three were shared by both groups. An interesting aspect of this study is that item five was rated 100 per cent by all the respondents. The implications of these findings for counsellor educators, the schools system and practicing counsellors were identified.
