Abstract

The motivation for this paper was the felt need by the authors to proffer a timely solution to the burgeoning wave of cultism on several tertiary institution campuses across Nigeria. The paper begins with a definition of cultism. It then examines the causes and consequences of cultism on campus. The role which the authors feel that stakeholders in the educational enterprise should play are succinctly spelt out. Among the stakeholders for whom certain specific roles have been spelt out are the government (federal and state), parents, students, school authorities, teachers, the community and counsellors, the personnel who are expected, by reason of their special training, to play prominent roles in stemming the tide of the menace called cultism.

Keywords: Education, stakeholders, counselling, cultism, tertiary institutions, university campuses, Nigeria.
