Relevance of counselling to human resource management in organizations

Abstract



Counselling is regarded as a programme that is only school based by many Nigerians due to inadequate information. However, literature has shown that counselling is universal and useful in all fields of human endeavours. This paper therefore brings into focus the relevance of counselling to human resource management in organizations. It defines counselling, resource management and identifies various services that counsellors perform as important members of personnel department. It is suggested that both public and private organizations should employ the services of counsellors to address the educational/training, developmental, vocational and the socio-personal concerns of their employees. This is to promote employees' welfare as well as to enhance effective and efficient job performance.
