Length-weight relationship and condition factor of Macrobrachium vollenhovenii in the Lagos-Lekki lagoon system, Nigeria

Abstract

Length-weight relationship and condition factor of 24 months samples of Macrobrachium vollenhovenii Herklots, 1857, from the Lagos – Lekki lagoon system were estimated. The parameters a and b of the length-weight relationship were -4.72 and 2.92 for male while the corresponding female values were -4.98 and 3.01. The male of the species exhibited negative allometric growth while for the female growth was positive allometric. The condition factor k was 1.46 for both male and female. The implication of the estimated LWR parameters to the assessment of M. vollenhovenii stock in the Lagos-Lekki lagoon system was discussed.
