About the Journal
Publisher
The Botanical Society of Nigeria, Publisher of the Nigerian Journal of Botany, is an umbrella body of all botanists and researchers in plant sciences, established to conduct focused research activities that will impact on the socio-economic development of the nation, and to disseminate such information. The vision of the Society is to be the foremost assemblage of plant scientists that will drive research in the study of all forms of plant life in various ecosystems with a view to disseminating knowledge therefrom for the benefit of humankind.
Sources of Support
Annual dues by members; subscription ; book launch during conferences; donations by individuals and corporate bodies; support by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund); sale of hard copies.
Peer Review
Manuscripts received by the Editor-in-Chief are subjected to quality check, after which each manuscript is sent out for blind peer review by at least two (2) reviewers to be appointed by the Editorial Team. A third reviewer will be appointed where necessary. Reviewers are given two to three weeks within which to review and return their comments to the Editor-in-Chief. Upon receipt of the comments and recommendations of the reviewers, the Editor-in-Chief consults the deputy-editors for further comments. Thereafter, the reviewers’ comments are forwarded to the authors for revision based on the comments of the reviewers and in strict adherence to the editorial guidelines. Selection of papers for publication in the journal is based on the originality of the research and contribution to scientific knowledge.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Publication Scheduling
The Nigerian Journal of Botany is published twice a year, in June and December.
General
The Nigerian Journal of Botany was first published in 1988 with M.O. Fawole as pioneer Editor-in-Chief and C.O. Akueshi and E.O.Etejere as deputy editors. Fawole was succeeded by E.O. Etejere as Editor-in-Chief while C.O. Akueshi and J.A. Morakinyo served as deputy editors. C.O. Akueshi succeeded E.O. Etejere as Editor-in- Chief while J.A. Morakinyo and O.P. Ifenkwe served as deputy editors. Prof. Akueshi was succeeded by O.A.T. Namo as Editor-in-Chief with O.E. Ade-Ademilua and O.S, Udengwu as deputy editors. The journal has been consistently published since inception, a feat which has earned it special recognition and financial support by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), an education-funding agency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
