Case Report of A Baby with Suspected Vacterl Constellation
Abstract
A term, normal birth weight, appropriate for gestational age, male infant born in a private hospital in Delta State and referred to University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Edo State on account of his abdominal and limb defects. The baby had multiple birth defects consistent with a diagnosis of VACTERL association. The patient was managed conservatively while
evaluation was being carried out. However this was hampered by the fact that some of the desired ancillary investigations were not available. The patient unfortunately died while awaiting definitive therapy for the more serious anomalies. This case highlights several issues which can seriously hamper efforts to reduce the morbidities and mortality accruing from congenital anomalies in our environment.
