Congenital Orbital Teratoma: A Case Report
Abstract
Orbital teratoma is a rare congenital germ cell tumor with tissues derived from all three germinal layers. This is a case report on the management of congenital orbital teratoma. A healthy full-term female neonate presented with severe protrusion of the left eye which was surrounded by a cystic to solid mass with prominent vessels and distended eyelid. The clinical and imaging features were consistent with orbital teratoma. The patient had a lid sparing exenteration and the histopathology revealed mature tissues from each of the three germ cell layers which confirmed the diagnosis of mature teratoma. The report is presented for its rarity and successful management.
