Abstract

Solitary Fibrous Tumours (SFT) while most common in the pleura are rarely seen in the breast. They were initially classified as hemangiopericytomas due to their characteristic 'staghorn' vessel configuration and are also close mimickers of fibroepithelial proliferations of the breast – fibroadenomas and benign phyllodes tumours. These make the lesion under-recognised and underreported. Recently, nuclear expression of STAT-6 has been found to be a reliable marker for SFT representing the presence of the diagnostic NAB2-STAT6 fusion gene. We present the case of a young lady with an enlarging breast mass diagnosed as SFT at our institution with confirmatory immunohistochemistry. We comment on the outcome of this case and briefly review the literature.
