Cardiological Management Of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Abstract
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic condition associated with significant morbidity and prematuremortality. Insulin resistance is a key underlying defect in the etiology of T2DM and is often accompanied by otherwell known cardiovascular risk factors all of which leads to accelerated atherosclerosis. Large percentage ofpatients present with complications of diabetes at diagnosis with cardiovascular complications contributingsignificantly to diabetes costs and mortality. There is therefore the need to look out for T2DM in the cardiologysetting especially the ones presenting with cardiovascular complications and treating according to standardprotocols.
