Broken branch structure is ANC’s Achilles heel

Abstract

On 31 March 2021, the Supreme Court of Appeal declared the 2018 Free State provincial conference of the ANC unlawful and unconstitutional (De Vos, 2021). This covers the election of the provincial leadership at this conference. The interference of the courts in the internal processes of political parties is unusual.
