Author Guidelines
MULIKA is an academic journal devoted to the study of Kiswahili Language and Literature. Its raison d’être is to gather and disseminate knowledge on Kiswahili language and literature based on fundamental scholarly research. MULIKA serves as a link or bridge between Kiswahili users in different places and Kiswahili experts and stakeholders who are in secondary and tertiary level institutions in East Africa.
The Journal is published once a year. We accept papers and articles of scholarly standard written in Kiswahili only, with clear abstracts. Manuscripts should be typed, double spaced on A4 size paper. Only one side of the page should be used.
Three copies of the typescript should be submitted to the editor, accompanied with a soft copy compatible with Microsoft WORD.
The first page of each article should bear the title of the paper, and the full names (including title/position, academic affiliation, etc.) and address of the author. The second page should bear the title of the paper (without the name of the author) and an abstract of not more than 300 words.
When citing references in the text, cite only the last name of the author followed (in brackets) by the date of publication and page (s), e.g. Yahya (1983:139). Names of authors in the list of references/bibliography should appear in alphabetical order.
Notes (footnotes and endnotes) should be numbered and used only for substantive information. These should be separated from the text, and should appear just before the bibliography.
Manuscripts will be reviewed by least two readers, whose identity shall remain confidential. Authors must avoid putting their personal identification in the articles so as not to bias the reviewer. Authors’ will normally be informed the outcome of the review process within three months from the date of receipt of their articles. Rejected articles will not be returned. Authors of full articles which are accepted for publication will receive a free copy of the journal and ten off prints of their articles.
