Promoting Understanding and Cooperation in the West African Sub-Region: The Place of Languages and the Role of “Consumers” of Language

Abstract

The article examines the role of teachers of language and literature and institutions. The role of the individual appears to be greater in the matter of promoting understanding and cooperation only to the extent that he can wield the two languages. Nevertheless, understanding and cooperation in West Africa requires the involvement of all West Africans. Hence the acquisition of the world languages requires the involvement of individuals as well as governments.
