Legal Deposit provision of the National Library Act: implementation, preservation and benefits

Abstract

The Legal Deposit Act of the National Library of Nigeria is critically examined with regard to its implementation, presentation and benefits. A historical overview is presented with clear delineation and description of the Act's components. Types of materials and number of copies to be deposited with categories of publishers who are to deposit their publications are highlighted. The paper presents guidelines for collective drive and statutory functions and services implementations. It identifies problems militating against the implementation of the Act and concludes by pointing the way forward.
