Influence of Information Communication Technology (ICT) use on librarians’ job performance in the National Open University of Nigeria
Abstract
Information communication technology (ICT) has come to stay and has added value to the services of academic libraries. ICT has brought changes in the way users search and retrieve information. Therefore, librarians are faced with the challenge of using ICT to meet the changing complex needs of their users. The study examines the influence of Information communication technology (ICT) use on job performance of librarians in the National Open University of Nigeria. It shows that ICT use has influence on librarians’ job performance. However, it was concluded that the willingness of librarians to use ICT depends much on management support in terms of providing access to ICT facilities, training and retraining of librarians on the use of ICT for optimal performance and better service delivery. It was therefore recommended that library management should provide personal laptops for librarians in order to encourage frequent access and use. This would in turn, improve their knowledge and skills on the use of ICT in discharging their duties.
