Peer Review
The system being used in assessing the quality of a manuscript before it’s published is the peer review. Reviewers are independent and experienced researchers in the relevant research areas who are appointed to assess submitted manuscripts for originality, validity and significance. This helps editors to determine the suitability or otherwise of a manuscript for publishing in their journal.
Generally, peer review is an integral part of scientific publishing that confirms the validity of the manuscript. Peer reviewers are experts who volunteer their time to help improve the manuscripts they review. By undergoing peer review, manuscripts should become more robust (pointing out gaps in a paper that require more explanation or additional experiments); Easier to read (if any aspect of the manuscript is difficult to understand, reviewers can suggest changes) or more useful (peer reviewers considering the relevance of the manuscript to others in same field), among other reasons.
After the submission of a manuscript to a journal, it is first pre-assessed by the Editor in Chief to determine if it meets the criteria in the Call for Paper. If it does, the editorial team will select potential peer reviewers within the field of research toreview the manuscript and make specific recommendations on it to guide the editor in final decision making.
The type of Peer Review used by LAUJOCES is Double-blind. In this process, the reviewers do not know the names of the authors, and the authors do not know who reviewed their manuscript. At least two (2) reviewers are selected for each manuscript whose reports are expected to be positive for the manuscript to accepted for publication. In case any of the two (2) reports is negative, a third reviewer is appointed to either confirm or dismiss the unsuccessful report based on his independent review.
