Enjeux politiques et ethniques dans le champ sportif au Benin

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the sports phenomenon and to its political and ethnic instrumentality in Benin. Since this French-speaking country in Africa south of the Sahara broke with Marxist and Leninist regime (which lasted seventeen years), through "the National Conference" in 1990; a democratic and liberal regime was set up. This enables the hatching of a multitude of political, cultural, developmentalist and sports associations. Sport which was imported by French colonial Power from
1870 to 1959 took advantage of this craze for association to become a space and a conductive field to cultural and ethnic expression individuals and groups in search of political and social assertion.

Cet article est consacré à l’analyse du phénomène sportif et à son instrumentalisation politique et ethnique au Bénin. Dès lors que ce pays de l’Afrique noire francophone rompt avec dix sept années de
régime marxiste léniniste à travers "La conférence nationale" en 1990, s’instaure un régime plus démocratique et libéral qui favorise l’éclosion d’une multitude d’associations à caractère politique, culturel, développementaliste et sportif. Le sport, pratique importée par le pouvoir colonial français (1870-1959) profite de cet engouement associatif pour devenir un espace et un terrain propice à
l’expression culturelle et ethnique d’individus et de groupes en quête d’une affirmation sociale et politique.
