Le mariage Kabiye / Tem et la question identitaire : Entre attachement culturel et exclusion ethnique [Kabiye / Tem marriage and the question of identity: Between cultural attachment and ethnic exclusion]

Abstract

Cet article porte sur les facteurs explicatifs de l’absence d’ouverture entre les communautés Kabiyè et Tem dans le cadre du mariage dans un contexte urbain marqué par la démocratisation des rapports sociaux. A travers une approche qualitative faite d’entretiens individuels semi structurés et de groupes effectués dans quatre communes à savoir Tchaoudjo 1, Assoli 1, Kozah 1 et Binah 2, l’étude met en exergue les logiques qui sous-tendent la rareté du mariage entre Kabiyè et Tem dans le contexte actuel de brassage culturel généralisé. Les résultats obtenus mettent en évidence plusieurs facteurs explicatifs du phénomène. D’une part, la différence culturelle liée à l’adoption ethnique de religions opposées, l’attachement à l’observance des pratiques coutumières y relatives, notamment la consommation ou non du cola, des boissons alcoolisées, de la viande du porc et du chien participent à l’exclusion réciproque des deux communautés. D’autre part, l’étude montre que les ressentiments créés par les crises sociopolitiques de l’histoire récente et le manque de confiance réciproque ont contribué à réduire les possibilités d’ouverture des Kabiyè et Tem dans le cadre des relations matrimoniales.

This article focuses on the explanatory factors of the lack of openness between the Kabiyè and Tem communities in the context of marriage in an urban context marked by the democratization of social relations. Through a qualitative approach made of semi-structured individual interviews and groups carried out in four municipalities, namely Tchaoudjo 1, Assoli 1, Kozah 1 and Binah 2, the study highlights the logics underlying the rarity of marriage between Kabiyè and Tem in the current context of generalized cultural mixing.The results obtained highlight several explanatory factors of the phenomenon. On the one hand, the cultural difference linked to the ethnic adoption of opposing religions, the attachment to the observance of related customary practices, in particular the consumption or not of cola, alcoholic beverages, pork and of the dog contribute to the reciprocal exclusion of the two communities.On the other hand, the study shows that the resentments created by the socio-political crises of recent history and the lack of mutual trust have contributed to reducing the possibilities of openness of Kabiyè and Tem in the context of matrimonial relations.
