Modou s'est jete dans les bras de la mer : Lecture psychopathologique d’une crise suicidaire par honneur chez un jeune homme lebou

Abstract

La tentative de suicide au-delà de l’acte individuel intègre une dimension collective surtout dans les sociétés encore attachées aux  valeurs traditionnelles. Pour mettre en exergue cet aspect, nous rapportons le cas d’une tentative de suicide d’un jeune homme lébou suite à une histoire d’honneur. Après trois tentatives de suicide en l’espace de 48 heures, Modou est admis en hospitalisation au service de psychiatrie du CHNU de Fann pour un meilleur suivi. Les entretiens menés ont permis de mettre l’accent une histoire familiale polygame marquée par des abandons, trahisons et besoins de pardon. La lecture psychopathologique de ce cas clinique, met l’accent sur la place du passage à l’acte comme un substitut à la parole et comment s’opère la réparation trans-générationnelle.

The suicide attempt is an individual act by which a person tries to kill himself. It is singular in that it often incorporates a collective dimension, especially in societies still attached to traditional values. Thus we report the case of a suicide attempt by a young man Lebou following a story of honor. After three suicide attempts within 48 hours, Modou was admitted to the psychiatrics’ ward of the teaching hospital Fann for better follow-up. The interviews led to a focus on a polygamous family history marked by abandonment, betrayal and need of forgiveness. Thus, the psychopathological reading of this clinical case emphasizes the acting out as a substitute of speech and how forgiveness occurs through generations. Also we must pay attention on the clinical particularities of the patient beyond his family history.
