Production agricole et disponibilite de produits vivriers dans la Commune de Bonou au Sud-Est du Benin

Abstract

L’alimentation du groupe familial est fondée sur les cultures vivrières. La commune de Bonou malgré ses atouts agricoles et les nombreux programmes agricoles qui y sont mis en oeuvre, reste marquée par des difficultés liées à la disponibilité des produits agricoles. Cette Commune est une partie intégrante de la basse vallée de l’Ouémé reconnu par la fertilité de son sol et sa capacité dans la production agricole. L’objectif de cette recherche est d’identifier les facteurs responsables de la non disponibilité des produits agricoles toute l’année dans la Commune de Bonou.

L’approche méthodologique adoptée comprend la recherche documentaire et des enquêtes socio-économiques. qui a touché tous les arrondissements de la Commune de Bonou. La cible de cette recherche est la population agricole estimée à 25056 par le Recensement Général de la Population et de l’Habitat 2013. Un taux aléatoire de 10 % a été attribué à cette population pour les enquêtes socio-économique à partir d’entretiens structurés basés sur un questionnaire ménage. Au total, 251 personnes ont été enquêtées.

Les résultats révèlent que 62 % des ménages n’ont pas accès aux produits agricoles toute l’année. La tendance à la monoculture est forte (85 %). Une différence significative n’est pas enregistrée entre les arrondissements quel que soit le cycle de culture considéré. Face à cette situation, il convient que de nouvelles stratégies soient mises en place pour une alimentation aisée des populations qui prendra en compte la consommation et commercialisation dans une planification cohérente.

English Title: Agricultural production and availability of food products in the Commune of Bonou in south-east Benin

English Abstract

The family group's diet is based on food crops. The town of Bonou despite its agricultural assets and the many agricultural programs that are implemented there, remains marked by difficulties related to the availability of agricultural products. This Commune is an integral part of the lower valley of Ouémé recognized by the fertility of its soil and its capacity in agricultural production. The objective of this research is to identify the factors responsible for the non-availability of agricultural products throughout the years in the municipality of Bonou.

The methodological approach adopted includes documentary research and socioeconomic surveys. which touched all the districts of the Municipality of Bonou. The target of this research is the agricultural population estimated at 25056 by the 2013 General Population and Housing Census. A random rate of 10% has been assigned to  this population for socio-economic surveys based on structured interviews. based on a household questionnaire. A total of 251 people were surveyed.

The results reveal that 62% of households do not have access to agricultural products all year round. The trend towards monoculture is strong (85%). A significant difference is not recorded between boroughs regardless of the crop cycle considered. Faced with this situation, new strategies should be put in place to ensure that populations are easily fed and that consumption and marketing are taken into account in a coherent planning.
