Information Communication Technology In Nigerian University Libraries: The Challenges Of The 21st Century
Abstract
Computer application to Nigerian University Libraries is discussed. It was discovered that research libraries were the first to embrace automation before their university counterparts. Manually performed library duties in the acquisitions, cataloguing, circulation serials and indexing sections are now better discharged with the application of computer. Similarly, the advent of computer has created access points to the information superhighway. The situation poses great challenge for libraries and librarians especially in the areas of library architecture, ICT policies, staff development and funding. The paper concludes that libraries, librarians and Government should accept challenge since libraries and information communication technology have symbiotic relationship.
