Antifungal Effects Of Botanical Leaf Extracts On Tuber Rots Of Yam
Abstract
The fungicidal effects of dry and fresh leaf extracts of Axardirachta indica (L) and Ocimum grattissimum on the rot of yam tubers were investigated. Fusaruim oxysporium, Rhjzopus stolonifer, Botryodiplodia theobromae and Aspergillus Niger (root pathogens) were isolated from the rotted yam. Both dry and fresh leaf extracts had significant inhibiting effects on the rot pathogens. The dry extracts of Ocimum grattissimum was more effective in checking the growth of the pathogens than the fresh extracts in vitro. Both extracts of Aadiracta indica controlled the growth of the pathogen equally. They also controlled the establishment of the disease in vivo
