Participatory Management And Organisational Effectiveness Of Secondary School System In Rivers State Of Nigeria

Abstract

The study investigated Participatory Management and Organizational Effectiveness of Secondary School System in Rivers State in Nigeria. The population for the study was made up of five thousand, two hundred and twenty-nine (5,229) teachers. The total sample used for this study was six hundred (600) teachers. To accomplish this study, three hypotheses were formulated for the study. Data collected were analyzed using Analysis of variance (ANOVA). The major results obtained were that: the level of staff participation in school decision-making does not significantly influence organizational effectiveness, and schools with high level of community participation in managing material resources were perceived better than schools with moderate and low levels of community participation. Based on the finding it was recommended that shared decision-making should be seriously considered for secondary school system in order to enhance productivity, satisfaction and the psychological growth of staff, students and parents.
