An Analysis Of Travel Demand Determinants In A Developing City: The Case Of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State

Abstract

In analyzing travel demand determinants in Ijebu-Ode Township, data collected for the study were analyzed by using multiple linear regressions.
The study found out that school, work (formal and informed) and shopping trips accounted for about 77% of the total volume of trips generated in the study area. Likewise, motorcycle, taxi and trip making by trekking accounted for about 73% of the trips modal split. Level of income, auto-ownership and number of students, distance and number of workers were the significant determinants of the propensity to generate intra-city trips. Problems found militating against intra-city mobility in this city of secondary development include poor condition of roads, inadequate and inefficient public transportation and exorbitant prices of spare parts that prevent proper maintenance.
