Evaluation of Bioadhesion of liquid fluconazole preparations using mucociliary transport rate
Abstract
In this study we have investigated mucociliary transport rate of liquid fluconazole preparations using the ex-vivo frog palate, as a possible technique of assessing bioadhesion of the formulations. The method which employs the principle of attachment of drug preparation to and subsequent transport with mucus is simple, inexpensive and reproducible. The method is affected by amount of sample used, ambient conditions, basal mucocilary rate and particle size of tracer used. Fully optimised it can be used to assess differences between liquid formulations, as shown by the preliminary data obtained with commercial Diflucan preparations and some liquid fluconazole formulations or vehicles.
