A Study of the nutritive value of some locally available seeds
Abstract
The nutritive value of some locally available seeds (Soybeans, pigeon pea, maize and rice) were studied. The objectives of the study were to screen the food nutrients in the seeds and to establish their significance to the treatment and management of diseases. The methods of screening and analysis were those of Association of Analytical Chemists (1, 2). The results show that the seeds contain proteins, fats and oils, fibre, carbohydrate, ash, iron, calcium, vitamin A and moisture contents in varied proportions.
