Lophira alata (Ochnaceae) stem bark extract attenuates chemical and thermal pain in rodents
Abstract
Lophira alata is used in ethnomedicine as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent. This study examined the analgesic activity of the ethanol stem bark extract of L. alata in rodents using the acetic acid-induced mouse writhing assay, hot plate and tail flick tests at 200-800 mg/kg dose levels. L. alata significantly (p<0.05) reduced the number of writhes in the mouse writhing assay, increased latency time in the hot plate and tail flick tests at the highest dose used in this study. L. alata ameliorates chemical and thermally induced pain
