Thiazolidinediones And Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Proven And Potential Benefits A Review
Abstract
Thiazolidinediones TZDS are one of the several new classes of drugs which have become available for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the past few years. Included in this group are rosiglitazone, pioglitazone, troglitazone and ciglitazone, Generally, from various studies carried out, they seem to have many advantages over the older available anti-hyperglycemic agents especially in preventing the progression of the macro vascular complications; although there are still some concerns about their long term safety. This article summarizes the accumulated scientific evidence to date of the known and or/presumed beneficial effects of these drugs.
