Safety of Local Anaesthesia in Thyroid Surgery
Abstract
In most centers, Thyroid Surgeries are done under General Anaesthesia with endotracheal intubation. We present a retrospective review of 117 thyroid surgeries done in our center from 1994 to 1998 (a 5 year period). Seventy-nine cases (67.5%) were done under local anaesthesia. The morality was zero and only one case (0.8%) was converted to general anaesthesia.
