Women involvement in rural household food security in Bosso Local Government of Niger State

Abstract

The study examined food security in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger state. A total of 100 respondents were selected randomly from Bosso Local Government Area. Interview schedule was used to elicit information
from the respondents .Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were  used to analyse the data.The result of the OLS shows linear regression as the lead equation. Linear regression was used to determine factors that affect women contribution to their household food security. Education was found to be significant at 10%.,farm size and age of the household head were both significant at 1%.This established that years of education of the
respondents, with the mean of four years, had great effect on the  respondents’ households food security status the more educated they are, the better informed they and ready they were to  adopt innovations that will ensure food security and take them out of poverty’s vicious cycle. Farm size and age of the respondents impact positively on their food security  status. The findings show that the households’ food security of the  sampled women improved with their husbands’ supports. It is  recommended that appropriate policies be put in place with good  extension services to ensure food security among the respondents
