Awareness Of Improved Methods Of Goat Rearing By Rural Dwellers In Egbeda Local Government Area Of Oyo State

Abstract

In Nigeria protein intake has been on the decrease for the past two decades. Government had made various efforts to increase the production of livestock in order to increase protein intake. One of such efforts is the livestock extension service on cattle, sheep, goat, chicken etc. A study was carried out to determine the level of awareness of goat rearers of improved methods of goat rearing. The study revealed that respondents are highly aware of these methods, but they do not utilize these methods because of lack of inputs and cost of the inputs. Their major sources of information about these methods are radio, extension agent, friends and family members. It was therefore recommended that government should provide recommended inputs to goat rearers at subsidized rates.
