Protection and utilization of records in selected local government areas in Nigeria
Abstract
The study was carried out to find out strategies of protecting records and their utilization in selected local government areas in Nigeria. Questionnaire and interview were the instruments used in collecting data for the study. Findings revealed that records of the LGAs were manually protected by the records management as most they do not use electronic devices in the management of their records; records were adequately utilized for the administration of the LGAs. There was no significant difference between stakeholders on the utilization of records in the LGAs. The observed utilization of records could not really be associated with the effectiveness of the LGAs administration. Finally, it was recommended that records managers in all the LGAs should adopt the use of modern technologies in the security and protection of their records.
