Effect of Cancer Therapy on Some Haemostatic Parameters
Abstract
Some haemostatic parameters such as relative plasma viscosity (RPV), platelet count (PC) Prothrombin Time Test (PTT) and Partial Thromboplastin Time with Kaolin (PTTK) in 50 cancer patients were investigated. A significant
increase in relative plasma viscosity (P<0.05) was recorded in pre- and post-chemotherapy samples. The platelets decreased significantly (P<0.05), when compared with controls. Also a statistical increase was observed in PTT and PTTK. These changes in haemostatic functions in cancer might be a direct result of abnormal progression of these cells and the response to chemotherapy.
