Indigenous Symbols of Nourishment What is their Place in the Sacramental Rite of Holy Communion in the Anglican Church of Kenya?

Abstract

The use of bread and wine in the sacramental rite of the Holy Communion in the Anglican Church are so significant that they mark the climax of the Anglican worship. However, there are emerging debates and voices regarding these dominical symbols in the Anglican Communion where some Provinces are substituting them with indigenous symbols. While other Provinces in the Anglican Communion are considering their indigenous symbols of nourishment for reappropriation in the Holy Communion, the Kenyan Church is reluctant to embrace them. It is against this backdrop that this article is set to explore the place of indigenous symbols of nourishment and their relevant to the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) adherents particularly in the ACK diocese of Thika.
