Shuttle Diplomacy and Conflict Management: A Critical Analysis

Abstract

This paper highlights the necessity for shuttle diplomacy in the form of peace-making and sustainable solutions to conflict management in the international system. Crafting peace between and among nation states has suffered from lack of attention on the conflict imperatives of building a lasting and sustainable peace. Given the often intractable nature of conflicts and the incidence of dysfunctional conflicts, warring parties continue with their destructive debate, repeating their non-negotiable positions and evil intent. This paper therefore argues for the need to revisit the existing mechanisms of shuttle diplomacy with a view to canvassing a stronger case for stakeholders towards adopting this strategy as a more practical and sustainable way of achieving enduring peace.
