A Langmuir study of novel Schiff Base ligand for ion sensor application
Abstract
Two novel Schiff Base ligands are used in this work. These amphiphilic ligands were being chosen because of the suitability in forming Langmuir film by using Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. Characterizations of these ligands were carried out through LB technique to obtain the surface pressure-mean molecular area (П-A) and surface potential-mean molecular area (ΔV-A) isotherms. The analysis made from extrapolating the П-A graphs led to the result of the estimated area and the radius of the ligand molecules oriented on the air-water subphase. The UV-Visible spectrometer was used to study the optical properties of the ligands. This study was made in order to recognize the fundamental properties of these ligands for future works on detecting ions applications.
