Effect of parental relationship and education on female tertiary students' predisposition to commercial sex work in Akwa Ibom State
Abstract
The study examined effect of parental relationship and education on female tertiary students' predisposition to commercial sex work in Akwa Ibom State. The population of the study comprised all 20,829 female undergraduate students in five tertiary institutions. Multi-stage sampling technique was employed in selecting 2,080 female students for the study. The causal comparative designwas adopted for the study. A four-point Likert-type scale questionnaire tagged Predisposition to Commercial Sex Work Questionnaire (PCSWQ) was used for data collection.Three null hypotheseswere tested with one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at .05 levels of significance. The result revealed that parent-child relationship and parental level of education significantly predispose female students to commercial sex work. Based on the findings, it was recommended that parents and caregivers should maintain a secure relationship at childhood as this will inculcate positive sexual behavior at adulthood.
