Abstract

This study investigated the perceptions of 111 NCE III students of the College of Education, Gindiri on factors influencing their  performance in Mathematics. The study used descriptive research design. The data collected with Educational Statistics Questionnaire was a 4 point Likert scale developed by the researchers. The data collected were analyzed by mean and standard deviation to answer the research question. Results revealed that students perceived attitude and interest towards mathematics, lack of teaching aids, poor teaching methods, lack of conducive learning environment, discouraging comments among peer groups, poor elementary school  background in mathematics, parents attitudes towards mathematics, and poor motivation of teachers of  mathematics as factors that affect performance. Finally, it was concluded that mathematics teachers and lecturers should rise to the challenge of demystifying the course to enhance better performance of students in mathematics thereby leading to national development and sustainability.
