Information And Communication Technology Literacy And eAssessment In Open And Distance Learning
Abstract
This paper explored eAssessment challenges and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Literacy needed for effective automation of assessment in Open and Distance Learning. The population consisted of students of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) already exposed to eAssessment. Sample was randomly drawn from one study centre in three out of the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. The study determined participants' eAssessment challenges, ICT literacy and the way forward for automation of Assessment processes. The questionnaire was developed by the author. Data were analysed by using descriptive statistics. The results of the data analyses showed that the participants' ICT literacy had implications for automation of Assessment practices. eAssessment challenges were identified and the way forward for improving eAssessment were proffered for entrenchment of good practices. Viable recommendations that would lead to standard settings in automation of large scale assessment practices were made to bring about innovations for the 21st century.
