A survey of counselling needs of senior secondary school students in Yenogoa L.G.A. of Bayelsa state
Abstract
This study examined the counselling needs of senior secondary school students in Yenogoa L.G.A. of Bayelsa state. Survey research was adopted, with a randomly selected sample of 200 S.S.1 students from five secondary schools in the Area. The sample consisted of 100 Male and 100 Female students. A self-designed instrument titled Students Counselling Needs Assessment Questionnaire (SCNAQ) was used to generate data. Mean scores and t-test were used in analyzing the data. Findings showed that the respondents were positive and favourably disposed towards all areas of their needs especially in the area of educational/study habits and physical/health. They were also favourably disposed towards career/vocational and personal/social needs although they were negative in few items. Male and Female respondents were not signifcantly different in their counselling needs. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made.
